Cleveland
The Delta town of Cleveland, Mississippi,
named for President Grover Cleveland, grew up around the lumber
business and is home to Delta State University. And, as with
most towns throughout the Delta, Blues music prevails as the
king of tunes. Nearby Dockery Plantation was home to many
Blues musicians, like Charlie Patton. Patton's style had a
major influence on the music of Kid Bailey, Dick Bankston,
Willie Brown, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, and many others. Shopping
opportunities exist both within the city of Cleveland, Mississippi
and in nearby Marigold where McCarty's Pottery features unique
items of award-winning hand crafted clay pottery.
