Confederate Cemetery

Explore the rich culture and heritage in Mississippi. You can see it in the state's museums, historical homes, Civil War sites and landmarks. There are also a number of historical gravesites located in Mississippi.

Mississippi has four separate and unique Confederate Cemetery sites. One Confederate Cemetery is in Grenada and is home to 180 graves of unknown Confederate soldiers. The Confederate Cemetery in Oxford is the burial site of Confederate soldiers who died as a result of the Battle of Shiloh. A cemetery in Raymond holds 140 graves of soldiers, mostly from Tennessee and Texas, mortally wounded during Battle of Raymond, May 12, 1863. The last cemetery is in Vicksburg and it is the final resting place of Maj. Gen. John Stevens Bowen, Brig. Gen. Isham Warren Garrott and Brig. Gen. Martin Edward Green.

The confederate graveyards are valuable pieces of history and remind us of how far our country has come and what it has cost us…
